The Team Handicap Final between KG 'B' and St Peters 'A' will take place at Essex Road on Monday 20th May, starting at 7.30pm. It is sure to be a fascinating and top class evening of table tennis, with the Dave Kimberley's KG team looking to use their tactical experience and handicap head start to outwit the firepower of reigning league and cup champions St Peters team, lead by 'top of the rankings' captain Sean Pickin.

Oakley Sports Weekend - Saturday 20th April

Oakley Community Association has organised a sports “taster” weekend during which people new to sports can take part and get a feel for a very wide range of sporting activities. The full time table for the weekend may be found at www.ocaoakley.org.uk. All activities are free but are aimed at those totally new to each sport.
Table Tennis will take place in the Andover Road Village Hall between 12.30 and 15.00 on Saturday 20th April and 10.00 and 12.00 on Sunday 21st April.

Aldworth Tigers v Aldworth Lions

Message from Martin Dawson:
A match for juniors was held on the evening of Tuesday 5 at Aldworth School between Aldworth Tigers consisting of Luke Stipcevic, Matt Deadman and Jasmin Bromilow against Aldworth Lions with Miles Bromilow, Paul Surplice and Liam Hignett under league conditions with the prospect of entering extra teams in next year’s league competition. The result of a 5-5 draw was a just result with some excellent fought games.

Thanks to Martin and all those involved in arranging this match. It is great to see new juniors playing table tennis in Basingstoke and let's hope some of them will be future BDTTL stars!

Week 25 is set aside for the Quarter Finals of the Team Handicap, with some exciting matches in prospect:
Can Dave Kimberley keep up his recent good form and guide KG 'B' through to the semi-finals against a determined Basingstoke Hindu Society? Will the young guns from Div 2 Aldworth 'C' upset the form book by defeating Div 1 Queens 'B'. Can the reigning champions St Peters 'A' be able to hold their nerve in a tricky looking contest at Hannington.  Will Div 2 leaders Queens 'F' be too strong for St Peters 'C'?

Closed Championship - Saturday 13th April
March 3rd, 2013

Message from Patrick Garlick:
Please find a entry for link below for this season's Basingstoke Closed Championships which is to be held at Aldworth Science College on Saturday 13th April with finals night at Basingstoke Rugby club on Thursday 18th April. Copies will be left at Essex Road in both rooms.
The rule, passed at the last AGM states that players must have played a minimum of 3 league matches by the entry deadline date to be eligible to play. So if you have not yet managed that then please ensure you have done so before Saturday 6th April. 
Over 50 players entered last year and it would be great to get even more entries again this year. Please bear in mind when choosing which events you wish to enter, that all events will be played on one day. Quite a few players were exhausted last year after having entered into too many events and not having enough rest time! 
Again, entries will be coming to me this year but the tournament is being organised by Sue Tompsett. Please contact either of us with any queries.

New website - update

The new website, developed by Tony Amies, is looking FAB and thanks to all those who are entering match results in the "test" version so that we an check the results in parallel with the existing website.
I see that there are just a handful of matches NOT recorded on the new website that we do have on the existing website, so it would be really useful if those who have access, could please check that any missing results/scorecards are entered.

Superb performance from Amy Blagbrough

On the 9th & 10th of June Amy Blagbrough played in the English National Championships and won a bronze medal at her age group. Here is the report from the Basingstoke Gazette:
 
Basingstoke's young Table Tennis star Amy Blagbrough picked up a bronze medal at the National Table Tennis Championships in Walsall. Blagbrough, seeded number five in the under 12 competition, got off to a great start beating Jade Baldry (Cornwall) 11-0, 11-4, 11-1, Helen Turley (Lincolnshire) 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 and Katie Hood (Sussex) 11-4, 11-4, 11-2, to easily win her group. In the next round the Aldworth Science College student was drawn against Talia Banin-Reid (Middlesex) winning 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 to progress to the quarter-finals. There she met the number two seed and one of the pre-tournament favourites, Susses's Katie Cheer. The first set was a close affair which Cheer took 11-7, but Blagbrough raised her game and produced a fantastic display of attacking table tennis to take the second set 11-3. This continued in the next two sets which saw the Basingstoke player win both 11-8 and 11-7 to take the match. The semi-final was against Bhavika Mistry and, although both girls played some excellant table tennis, Blagbrough who trains at Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club and with the England Cadet Table Tennis Squad, was unable to produce her form of the quarter finals so had to settle for third place and a bronze medal. Earlier in the weekend the Basingstoke player made the quarter-finals of the Under -14 girls' doubles as one half of a new partnership with Buckinghamshire's Imogen Scarles, losing to the number two
seeds 3-2.

Webmaster required!

BDTTL is looking for a new Webmaster to take over from Tom and Ashley who have been running this since 2005 and are retiring before the end of the 2012-13 season. Ideally we are looking for someone with the time and ability to give the website a complete re-design and introduce some new ideas and features. Anyone with the relevant experience who is prepared to devote time and energy to either enhancing or upgrading the current web site or developing a new one from scratch, should contact BDTTL George White in the first instance.
Deadline for applications is 31st August 2012.
