Closed Championship - The final word
April 3rd, 2009
Another action packed
Championship again this year with a total of 53 players entering the
junior and senior events. An amazing total of £458 was raised from entry
fees, raffles, competitions, refreshments and donations. This has more
than covered the costs of hiring both venues plus the costs of the
balls. Very many thanks to everyone for making the Closed Championship a
superb event this year.

Closed Championship
March 29th, 2009
Very many thanks to all
the players, supporters and helpers who made the BDTTL Closed
Championship a great success on Saturday. I am particularly indebted to
Barbara for running the raffles, Julie and Lorraine for providing the
refreshments and Tom and Kate for their help with the results and match
scheduling. There was some fantastic table tennis, most notably a 5 set
thriller in the Junior Singles Final between Tom O'Hanlon and Louis
Webb. All the matches were played with tremendous sportsmanship and it
was a pleasure to be involved in such an enjoyable Championship,
bringing people from all over Basingstoke together and producing a great
community spirit.

Help Please!
March 16th, 2009
Three cries for help
please!
1) Is there anyone out
there who has access to a small van or suitable vehicle that can
transport a table tennis table from Aldworth College to the Rugby Club
on Finals Night?
2) Last year we had a
raffle at the Closed Championship which raised over £150 for the BDTTL
and helped to cover costs of running the Championship. If anyone has any
raffle prizes they would like to donate, they would be very well
received!
3) Only 10 days left to
enter the Closed Championship. Please return your entries asap.

Closed Championship - Open Singles - Preview
March 6th, 2009
Can the mighty Steve Murgatroyd retain his
crown? Will Sean Pickin maintain his blistering form this season and
challenge for the title? Is Peter Matthews going to regain the top
prize?
This year's Open Singles
is going to be one of the most hotly contested for years. With the
majestic Tony Palaczky in superb form and the awesome fire-power of
Norman Swift, it's difficult to predict who is going to end up as
Basingstoke's No. 1 player. Louis Conlon has picked up some big scalps
in Div 1 and is highly regarded as a big threat. The crafty Paul Rattue
can't be ruled either, nor can the experience of Terry White be ignored
- both capable of beating the very best on their day.
Only 3 weeks to go and as
you can see, the anticipation is building!

BDTTL
Closed Championship 2008/09 - Finals Night - new venue
February 28th, 2009
Message from the Webmaster:
As most of you will be aware, after many successful years the Closed
Championship Finals Night can no longer be held at the Cannon Social
Club. However, I am pleased to confirm that Finals Night this season
will be played at the Basingstoke Rugby Club.
After an extensive search
for a suitable and viable venue, the Rugby Club has now been booked for
Tuesday 31st March from 7pm. The facilities include a bar and also a
snack bar where drink and food can be purchased by players and
spectators.
I am really hoping for a
bumper number of entries into the Championship this year. With ever
increasing costs (Aldworth College = £217, Rugby Club = £30) it is very
important that BDTTL try and recoup this money and the best way to do
this is to show your support by entering the Championship - player entry
fees are Seniors £5, Juniors £3.
So go on, don't delay,
enter right away! It's easy, Entry Forms are available on the web and
can be emailed to me or sent by post. Alternatively, simply email me the
events you would like to enter (basingstokett@hotmail.co.uk) or just
give me a call (Bas. 476708).
Finals Night will be a
terrific event in a great new venue, with some exciting table tennis
guaranteed! Even if you can't make the Championship on the Saturday,
make a date in your diary for Finals Night, spectators most welcome!

Webmaster Xmas Shoot-Out - RESULTS
January 4th, 2009
Congratulations to
Patrick Garlick for winning the Webmaster Xmas Shoot-Out. 13 players
braved a freezing night at Essex Road to compete in the 2nd ever Xmas
Shoot-Out, last years inaugural event won by Terry White.
This years event was a handicap doubles competition. Each player played
13 sets (31 up) with different partners and opponents drawn out of the
hat for each of the 13 sets, so lots of opportunities to play with and
against different players.
It was an incredibly close finish with any of 6 players having the
opportunity to win the event before the final set was played. Thanks to
all those who took part for making at an enjoyable evening and also for
raising £38 towards the cost of the website renewal fees.
The final results:
