SPORTS AWARDS 2005
Coach of the
Year
Every club has coaches
of a wide range of experience so why not take a minute to spare a thought for your
coach if they are based within Basingstoke & Deane and perhaps consider
nominating him or her for the coach of the year award. Application forms are
also available from the Borough Council via 01256-845685 and the winner will
receive a cheque for £100. This is a once a year
opportunity to recognise those who local sport rely
on and it is hoped that the local sporting community will submit nominations. Come on, recognise
those coaches without who you would probably struggle to run !
As yet a Table Tennis coach has not won this local award so why not this year ?
Service to Sport
The
various people behind the scenes at any sports club are those who make the club
and sport run and are often forgotten. The Service to Sport award goes someway
to recognising those achievements and it would be
appreciated if nominations from within the local junior football community
could be received. Just detail who you are nominating on some paper, what club
or sport they are with, why they are being nominated and as much detail as
possible about that person with press cuttings or evidence of achievements if
available. Don’t worry if you don’t know everything, as we will follow up the
initial applications on your behalf.
Team of the Year
Nominations are
welcome each year for any local Junior team who have had an especially
successful season and may be a school or college team, club or league
representative side.
Sports Volunteer of the Year
Recognition is
also given to the important Volunteers in local sport again at both Junior and
Senior level and as this year has been designated as ‘Volunteer Year’ it is
hoped that a wide range of nominations will be received. This award is open to
all those who volunteer time to local sport and for juniors can be include
those involved in JLSA or CLSA Award schemes.
Officials Awards
No sport can run
successfully without officials who often put in countless hours of effort in
receipt for little gratitude. This is your chance to nominate either Junior or
Senior candidates for recognition.
Club of the Year
Award
Each year clubs
are encouraged to submit details of their clubs achievements over the last year
to be considered for the CLUB OF THE YEAR award. The awards are
considered against a number of criteria.
Committee Structure,
Constitution and Code of Conduct / Annual development plan or action plan (e.g.
the club know what it is trying to achieve over a set period of time and it is
written down) / Equality of opportunity (e.g. no barriers to
people participating) / Successes and Achievements /
Good coaching structure with a commitment to coach development /
Appropriately qualified coaches and first aid personnel / A
developing youth section / Child protection procedures and education for
club members / Social environment and fundraising
Producing this type of
application as a ‘snapshot’ of the clubs development can also be useful when
applying locally for business sponsorship or grant aid. It can also
encourage your club to think about club development in the future.
Nominations for the above awards are welcomed between 1st October and
31st December each year. To nominate an individual all you have to do is write
to or e-mail the Local Sports Council detailing who you are nominating, what
sport they are from, and as much detail as possible relating to the category
plus a contact for more information if required.
