Press Report #30 With the season all but over there were only a few straggling matches remaining to be played. In Division 2 KG D s final match of the season against club mates KG E started very badly with the E sides superstar junior Amy Blagbrough causing a massive upset, easily seeing off the very experienced Dave Partridge with a fine display of youthful attacking shots that left Partridge reeling. After this daunting start though, the D team rallied and the remaining matches went to form, other than another great win for Amy over Holly Edwards, final result an away 4-6 win to KG D. Division 1: Congratulations to St Peters A as champions for the 6th successive year. The team did not lose a match and won the title by a large margin. Runners up were Winklebury which are well worthy of 2nd place, they regularly end in the top three each season. Alpha Cars were well placed in 3rd position Relegations positions are Queens A and lastly St. Peters B. Division 2: Congratulations to KG C. This division was much tighter at the top but this young team had a great run of form at the end of the season and just edged out Oakley A. Oakley A looked favourites for most of the season but ended just 2 points behind in 2nd place. Both teams are well worthy of promotion to the top tier. Queens C were well placed in 3rd position. Propping up the league are Hindu Society and congratulations must go to them for completing their fixtures and winning a match. It was really exciting to see all the really good junior players coming through the different teams this season. They all play a modern attacking game which is great to watch and a credit to their coaching team. Now is the time to hone those skills as the training has begun in earnest at Essex Road on Wednesday evenings so don’t forget – practise makes perfect. The Table Tennis AGM has been scheduled to take place on Thursday 23rd June at Basingstoke Rugby Club – I will keep you posted on timings as and when I receive further details.
