Press Report #9 Division 1 St. Peters vs KG B – Postponed St. Peters B vs KG A : 3:7 St Peters B were shorthanded and fielded only 2 players but it was a close call for KG. Dave Kimberley had a poor match – his worst of the season so far but well done to Steve NG to win both his games to help KG A win 7:3. Alpha Cars vs St. Peters A : 6:4 (brought forward from Week 10) St. Peters A finally came to the end of an incredible run of unbeaten matches and this defeat will probably not happen again for a long time with Alpha Cars finally beating the league champions St. Peters A for the first time ever at Essex Road. A really exciting top of the table battle with some very tight games. Minitec A vs Queens A : 2:8 Only Norman Swift (Minitec) saved a whitewash for Minitec beating both Pete Martin and Marcel Ludwig both in 4 games. Division 2 Queens D vs Queens F 8:2 A good win for Queens D before Captain Lorainne Mortimer’s 50th birthday celebrations in the States. Both Lorainne Mortimer and Nigel Cooper won all their 3 games with only Celia Hooker losing any games. St. Peters C vs Queens Z : 3:7 Callum Coombs (Queens) earned a gutsy treble by winning two of his matches in 5 sets (11-9 in the fifth) against Alan Lipscombe and (11-6 in the fifth) against Richard Faulkner. Queens C vs AWE A : 8:2 AWE’s Bob Harris and George Wilson beat Queens C’s doubles pairing of Colin Chapman and Mike Chamberlin in 3 straight sets 12:10, 11:8, 11:5. KG D vs Minitec B : 0:10 On paper it looked to be a one sided match with only Mike Wood (KG D) putting up a serious defence against D. Weber (Minitec) taking him to 5 sets before losing 11:9, 6:11, 5:11, 11:8, 6:11. Division 3 AWE B vs BHS : 3:7 Sirish Modi managed to get his first hat trick of the season. BHS won their first doubles match of the season with Sirish Modi and Prashanth Devarajappa beating Steve Jones and Norma Barrett 14:12, 11:7, 11:8. Queens J vs AWE B : 8:2 (this match was brought forward by 1 week) Jan Macdonald (Queens) won a game and is improving all the time. Queens fielded a new player (Marcin Anyzewski) who plays a good game and will be one to watch. Marcin won his 3 singles.
