Queens “A” and St Peters both maintained their positions at the top of Division One of the Basingstoke Table Tennis league with formality wins. No game went to 5 sets as Queens beat Oakley “A” 10-0 and St Peters avoided a potential slip up against a strong KG “A” team with Sean Pickin and Pete Matthews undisturbed in an 8-2 result which saw Tony Amies getting his revenge on Richard Mole. Two man Winklebury just beat Minitec Profiles 6-4 after Alan Gustar featured for the first time this season for the Minitec side and beat John Golding in 5 close sets, 9-11,11-8,8-11,11-8,
10-12. Louis Conlon and Tony Amies hit trebles as KG “A” beat Oakley “A” 9-1 with Steve Morris picking up the only point for the village side beating Dave Kimberley in 5 close sets.

In Division 2 KG “B” also maintained their top position with a 10-0 win over Oakley “B”. The normal trio of Phil Ware, Roger Bielby and Duncan Sibbick saw off a spirited challenge from Ian Warner. Queens “B” kept in touch with the leaders after an 8-2 result over their C team, with Mike Chamberlain enjoying a rare maximum beating George Hellans 11-6 in the 5th set after coming back from 2 sets down.

Patrick Garlick and Taryn Price both took the scalp of the tricky John McLarty in Essex Eagles 9-1 win over AWE. Louis Webb so nearly defeated Sue Tompsett losing 15-13 in the 5th set as Queens “D” drew 5-5 with 2 player Essex Eagles. The match saw Lorraine Mortimer beat Bob Garlick in a 5 set thriller, finishing off 12-10 in the 5th set. Dave Partridge was the hero as he hit a treble for KG “C” as they defeated Queens D 6-4.The Basingstoke Hindu society look to be improving as they picked up 4 points in their loss to Portals with Kanti Mistry hitting a brace. Steve Blunden beat Jitu Patel 12-10 in the 5th and final set of the night to seal the 6-4 win.
