Press Report #19 & 17 Jonathan Evans came home victorious after winning the Cirencester Under-15s recently. The Basingstoke youngster also came 4th in the Under 18s, although this does not reflect his performance. He only lost one match all day, but because of the group system of play, and the lost match being in the second round, he was not able to contend for Second or Third places. In the Basingstoke league Jonathan Evan hit a maximum that helped his Minitec Powerlocks team to an impressive 9-1 win over KG “A”. Niall McGrane also hit 3 on a rare appearance but Steve Murgatroyd was denied his glory going down 13-11 in the 5th set against Tony Amies. St Peters “A” moved 6 points ahead at the top of Division One after a 10-0 win over Hannington “A”. James Wright was impressive with a treble that included a 3 set win over Tony Brown to put pressure on Queens “A” who have a game in hand. Winklebury hit 9 past Oakley “A” but the bottom placed side put up some resistance with Steve Morris beating Dave Wise close in 5 sets, 11-9,9-11,11-9,8-11,11-9. Paul Rattue was instrumental in Cannons 7-3 win over Hannington hitting a undisturbed maximum. Resistance came from Tony Brown who hit a brace and Peter Henderson took the scalp of Ron Powell. A leg injury to Norman Swift meant that he had to retire half way through his match with Paul Rattue and so Cannons went on to win the match 6-4 despite a brace from Ashley Pither that included a nail biting 5 set win over Terry White. In Division 2 , KG “C” virtually ended St Peters “B”’s chances of promotion after a superb performance by Dave Partridge. Partridge finished the night off with a 13-11 victory in the 5th and last set of the night to take the scalp of Steve Armstrong. Two of the other last 3 matches went to the wire with Martyn Richard enjoying an 11-9 win in the 5th set against Alan Lipscombe. Colin Chapman returned after a spell out with a treble over KG C as Oakley B drew 5-5. Martyn Richards and Mike Wood hit 2 each for the KG side. Louis Palaczky made a rare appearance for Queens E and picked up the 2 wins in their 8-2 loss to Essex Eagles. Patrick Garlick was the star on the night hitting an impressive treble. Pete Blunden beat Dave Smith 11-9 in the 5th set to record a maximum along with Steve Redstall as Portals beat Oakley B 7-3. John McLarty’s 3 wins and Ken Wylds brace helped AWE to a 6-4 win over Queens C in match that saw Mick Buley defeat Steve Jones. |
