Press Report #21 & 19 The top 2 in Division One both had tough games with both teams trying to pull away from each other but Steve Murgatroyd put up resistance for Minitec Powerlocks winning 2 games as his side lost 7-3 to Queens “A”. Murgatroyd and Jonathan Evans took the scalp of Alex Garlick but Evans fell to the tricky Pete Martin but once again the star of the night was Tony Palaczky who powered to his maximum. Meanwhile Kevin Macken picked up a brace on a rare outing but was denied his glory by Sean Pickin who hit a treble to help St Peters “A” beat Cannons 8-2. Dave Mills hit a comfortable treble for Minitec Powerlocks in his teams 9-1 win over Oakley “A”. The sole point was picked up by Steve Morris who defeated Gary Livingstone. Oakley A are still without a win this season and look to be heading for Division 2 next season. Tony Amies and Louis Conlon hit maximums against Oakley in their 9-1 win. These were crucial points for KG “A” who are trying to avoid relegation and now look to have a big enough gap between them and Hannington to be safe. It was Chas Smith who picked up Oakley’s consolation point with a 4 set win over Kathy Ridgard. Winklebury look favourites to finish 3rd after a 9-1 win over Hannington with Dave Wise and Colin Wilkes on song and John Golding was denied his maximum by the tricky Tony Brown. In Division 2 John McLarty’s 3 wins were not enough to save his AWE side from a 6-4 defeat by Oakley “A”. Ian Warner and Dave Smith but hit pairs for the village side but both found McLarty too consistent. Jared Binner and Bob Garlick hit trebles for Essex Eagles as the team eased to a 10-0 win over the Basingstoke Hindu Society. Steve Armstrong and Alan Lipscombe lead St Peters B to a 6-4 win over Queens D both with trebles . Louis Webb demonstrated that he is becoming a force in the Basingstoke league after a 3 set win over Tom Speed. Patrick Garlick was the hero for Essex Eagles as his maximum ensured a 5-5 draw against KG “C” with a good win over Pete Millie. Millie hit 2 wins including a 9-11,11-9,10-12,11-13 win over Sue Tompsett.3 ladies played in the 5-5 draw between Queens D and Oakley B with Celia Hooker the most impressive with a fine treble. Terri Allison secured the draw with a 12-10 win in the 5th set over Lorraine Mortimer in the last set of the night. Steve Redstall and Pete Blunden were unbeaten as the lead Portals to a 6-4 win over Queens E. |
