Press Report #25 & 26
Week commencing 31st March & 7th April

KG “B” are champions of Division 2. The regular team of Roger Bielby, Phil Ware and Duncan Sibbick have been unbeaten all through the season and with Dave Partridge stepping in for the poorly Sibbick in the last 3 matches the team deserve their well earned title. Bielby and Ware were strong as their trebles lead to a 7-3 win over the Division 2 runners up Queens B. Ware’s toughest game was against Mike Chamberlain who had a very competitive night with Ware coming back from 2 sets to one down to win in 5. Chamberlain recorded a 5 set win over Partridge who had no joy on the night. It was a similar story as the same KG side beat Oakley B 7-3 and then the team eased past the Basingstoke Hindu Society 10-0 for the crown. No player hit a treble in Queens D’s 6-4 win over KG C . Lorraine Mortimer beat Martyn Richards 11-8 in the 5th set and Louis Webb was denied his treble by Richards after the youngster had an impressive 4 set win over the experienced Pete Millie.

In the top of the table clash in Division One St Peters A beat Queens A 6-4 for the third time this season. The 2 teams are still neck and neck at the top with Queens 18 points behind but with 2 games in hand. Pete Matthews was the star of the night hitting a treble with all hi matches being completed in 3 straight sets. Tony Palaczky got his revenge on Sean Pickin and James Wright was pleased with his win over Alex Garlick  but then fell to attack of Tim Pang. The doubles was a tense affair which Palaczky and Garlick won against Pickin and Matthews 12-10,13-11,10-12,12-10. Earlier 2 man Minitec Profiles put up little resistance losing 10-0 to Queens A. Profiles then put out a stronger team and narrowly lost to KG “A” 6-4. Kathy Ridgard, Louis Conlon and Dave Kimberley all hit braces for KG but all found the awesome attacking game of Norman Swift too strong. Winklebury look certain to finish 3rd after a 5-5 draw with Minitec Powerlocks in a game that saw Malcolm Cummins in outstanding form taking the scalps of Basingstoke Champion Steve Murgatroyd and Jonathan Evans both in 3 sets. Evans showed his maturing game with a 3 set win over Wilkes and Murgatroyd sealed the draw with a 12-10 win in the 5th and final set of the night against Wilkes. Cannons had a good 7-3 result against Hannington with Paul Rattue unbeaten. Tony Brown picked up 2 wins for the village team and Steve Rollason won the nail biter against Ron Powell , 10-12,1012,11-9,11-9,11-9.Jonathan Evans and Steve Murgatroyd both hit maximums for Minitec Powerlocks in the teams 6-4 win over KG “A” but the current Basingstoke doubles champions surprisingly lost 3 straight to Louis Conlon and Dave Kimberley. Oakley A are now relegated to Division 2 and Hannington look doomed for the drop as well.
