KG “B” are looking unstoppable in their bid to be Division 2 Basingstoke League Table Tennis champions leading the table after 2 more wins. The constant team of Roger Bielby , Duncan Sibbick and the tricky Phil Ware demolished Queens D 9-1 despite Lorraine Mortimer upsetting the party win a great 3 set win over Roger Bielby. The team then had a tougher match against Portal but came out 7-3 winners. The hero of the night was Steve Redstall who showed that he is one of the best in the league winning all 3 of this matches. The team who will be pushing KG are Queens B and they also hit 2 wins. Denise Weller beat John McLarty in 5 sets  to hit a treble and assist in a 7-3 win over AWE. Celia Hooker fought bravely for Queens D against the B team and lost on crunch points in the 5th sets against George Freeman and Roy Pike who both were unbeaten in the 8-2 win for the B team. St Peters “B” will finish near the top of the table as shown in an 8-2 win over Essex Eagles thanks to easy maximums for Brian Wilde and Steve Armstrong. Alan Lipscombe was the star of St Peters 7-3 result over KG C with the only treble of the night beating Pete Millie in 4 sets. Colin Chapman strolled to a maximum as he lead Oakley B to a 6-4 win over Queens E.6 matches went to 5 sets in a nailbiting draw between Oakley B and KG C with no player winning all 3 games . Terri Allison beat Dave Partridge 13-11 in the 5th but then fell to Mike Wood. Oakley’s Ian Warner beat Mike Wood in 5sets but then lost to Partridge by the the same score. AWE’s John McLarty’s easy 3 wins over Queens C did not stop a 6-4 defeat and Ceia Hooker was notably unbeaten in a 5-5 draw between the Queens C and D teams. The Basingstoke Hindu Society are still finding their feet in their rookie season in the Basingstoke league and fell 10-0 to Queens E.

.In Division One Queens “A” are looking strong with an excellent start to the season. The runners up last season enjoyed an 8-2 victory with Tony Palaczky the star man with a treble that included a 3 set win over Norman Swift. It was Swift that picked up the 2 points with wins over Alex Garlick and a 5 set win over Tim Pang who came back from 2 sets down to force Swift to move up a gear. The team then without their best player Palaczky beat a Cannons side not sporting their best player Kevin Macken ,  9-1 .The most notable result on the night was Tim Pangs 3 set win over Paul Rattue  These 2 wins put pressure on St Peters “A” who  slipped up against Minitec Powerlocks only winning 6-4 with Pete Matthews overcoming the improving Jonathan Evans in 4 close sets and going onto seal a maximum. Steve Murgatroyd beat Sean Pickin for the first time in the Basingstoke league and was unstoppable in the 3 set win. St Peters “A” then dropped a point against Oakley with James Wright going down to the spinny Chaz Smith but a Richard Mole treble ensured a 9-1 win. A strong KG “A” team were up against a Winklebury side featuring Malcolm Cummins and despite losing 8-2 had chances to win 2 more matches with Dave Kimberley losing a 3 point lead and the match in the 5th against John Golding and Tony Amies not finishing Cummins off after being 5-3 up in the 5th.KG “A” were impressive in the 7-3 win over Hannington “A” with a few unexpected results. Amies defeated Tony Brown in 3 sets and Paul Robinson beat Louis Conlon 11-9 in the 5th set but then Conlon replied with a win himself over Brown. Terry White recorded a maximum as Cannons beat strugglers Oakley “A” 8-2.
