Press Report #6 In Division 1 of the Basingstoke Table Tennis league, KG A remain unbeaten after a very closely contested match against Hannington which resulted in a draw. First blood went to Hannington as KG’s Dave Kimberley narrowly lost out to Steve Rollason over 5 games. KG’s Patrick Garlick had a particularly good night, beating all three opponents to retain his unbeaten record so far this season. Garlick’s new found maturity enabled him to include in his haul the scalp of Tony Brown and then to bounce back to win his deciding game against Rollason after losing the fourth game 1-11. St Peters B are still finding it hard going in Division 1, this week losing 10-0 away to the Queens B side of Keith Dickenson, Denise Weller and Andy Walker who were out to make amends for their 10-0 defeat last week. Also struggling in this division are Oakley A. This week Dave Smith, Chaz Smith and Steve Morris hosted the Queens A side of Tony Palaczky, Alan Palaczky and Louis Webb. The home side were all able to defeat junior Webb, but lost out to the Palaczky brothers for a 3-7 result. In Division 2, John McLarty was the saviour of the AWE team when they travelled to the Essex Road home of Queens E. McLarty won all of his matches and joined with team mate Steve Jones for a very closely contested doubles match against Peter Coppin and Keith Cutmore which was decided at 15-17 in the fourth game. Final result, Queens E win 6-4. Basingstoke Hindu Society A team retained their grip on the 2nd Division when they defeated KG D away 2-8. Mohak Dalesh was made to work hard by the home side, being taken to 5 games in each of his matches. However, he managed to triumph over both Martyn Richards and Mike Wood, being beaten only by Josh Manson. Sav Thevendria remains unbeaten in this division, while Kanti Mistri notched up wins over both Richards and Manson. Queens E got off to a good start at home to RAF Odiham with Robin Burns, Roy Pike and George Hellens all winning their first match. However, the RAF’s Daz Flack and Steve Preston stopped the rot with a superb doubles win over Burns and fourth man Mike Buley. From then on it was level pegging right up to the last two matches which went Queen’s way with Burns scoring a treble and Hellens snatching a 5 game win from Flack after being 1-2 down.
