Press Report #6 & 7 Pete Matthews showed why his is the reigning Basingstoke Table Tennis champion as he led St Peters “A” to an important 6-4 win over Division One league leaders Queens “A”. Queens have had a better start to this season but found themselves 6-2 down after Matthews was convincing in his 3 wins over Tony Palaczky , Alex Garlick and Tim Pang. Pickin joined in the success with a 3 set win over Palaczky but then fell to Garlick in 4 sets as Queens fought back and claimed the last game as Tim Pang held off a challenge from James Wright. Norman Swift looks in impressive form as he hit trebles against KG “A” and Hannington. The Minitec Profiles star helped his team draw 5-5 with KG “A” thanks to team mate Ashley Pither's wins over Dave Kimberley and Tony Amies. Gary Livingstone then beat Paul Robinson in 4 sets in the first game of the night to setup a 7-3 result for the Minitec side over Hannington. Malcolm Cummins and Colin Wilkes were awesome as they were unbeaten in their singles matches to help Winklebury to a 6-4 win over Minitec Powerlocks. Winklebury then moved clear into 3rd place in the league tables after a 10-0 demolition of Oakley “A” who look in trouble at the foot of the table. In Division 2 KG B are opening up a massive lead after a 10-0 win over AWE who had both Steve Jones and John McLarty scare KG star Roger Bielby. St Peters “B” beat Portals by the same score with Tom Speed enjoying a treble that included a 5 set win over Pete Blunden. Lorraine Mortimer spoiled Oakley B’s party as she beat Ian Warner in a 5 set thriller but this was Queens “D”’s only singles win as they went down 8-2 to the village side. Ex Division One player Pete Millie showed that he was still a force in the Basingstoke league as his maximum helped KG “C” to a 5-5 draw with Queens “E”. Taryn Price and Patrick Garlick were both unbeaten as Essex Eagles flew to a 9-1 victory over Queens “E”. Mohak Dalesh and Kanti Mistry picked up the Basingstoke Hindu Society’s first points of the season with wins over AWE’s Robin Treadwell in the teams 8-2 loss. The new team to Basingstoke lost their 3 other recent matches 10-0 to Queens “D” ,Oakley “B” and Essex Eagles. |
